“There is a point where movement meets stillness and peace meets action, at this point everything is possible”
This point, is the point of true relaxation, the point where the body and conscious thoughts release their control and allow a greater energy to enter into the physical and mental layers of the self. It is a creative energy that has within it vitality and peace in equal measure and once experienced it can never be forgotten.
This form of relaxation cannot be found in the usual places, neither can it be found in trying to silence your mind, although silence can be found because of it.
So many say that they want peace and yet within themselves they are fearful of it, resistant to it, frightened of the inaction that they believe it contains, in a world so addicted to action, so caught up in speed, greed, the proliferation of choice, the race to achieve material and self-centred goals. If only it was understood that peace is action, action of a different kind, not just stillness, stopping, nothingness but the true active, creative ingredient of all life.
How can it be that we might answer yes to the question do you want peace on Earth and yet inwardly we might answer no to the question do you want peace for ourselves? Does that actually mean that in truth we do not seek peace on earth or perhaps that we hold the belief that peace is only possible in death, and since most are frightened of dying then it follows that most frightened of peace? Time to change the long held deep-rooted beliefs, find a new mantra a new and true belief in peace and what it really means.
· Without peace there is only conflict and disharmony.
· Without peace there can be no true and long-lasting happiness.
· Without peace there can be no progress.
Until we accept that the natural rhythm of ebbing and flowing has been lost in our “constantly on” culture, we will continue to suffer and continue to destroy ourselves, eachother and our planet.
What does finding life balance truly mean? Does it just mean sharing your action equally between home and work? This will actually solve very little as many have found. Or does the solution lie in re-learning the natural rhythm of the human body finding the perfect balance between action and inaction? The answer is actually rather obvious but brave are the few who have harnessed that simple wisdom and made it work within their lives. At this stage within society, it does require being different, standing out from the crowd, resisting addictive grooves such as social media and the accumulation of wealth at all cost.
When this balance is found between action and inaction, or outer action and inner action we could say, then individuals, families, communities, organisations can thrive, no longer driven by fear, they can reach outwards and embrace all that is offered in life. They become creative, generous, whole. This, all of this, flows from peace not from pushing, forcing and trying to make it happen, and the gateway to that peace is the art of deep relaxation, a long forgotten wisdom replaced by watching TV, going to the pub, playing sport, adrenalin fueled activity, which all may well have their place but are all forms of action and stimulation that cannot re-place the need within the body and mind for peace.
Relaxation is a letting go, a release that allows the peace to enter; it can be found in stillness, in the sounds of nature, it is a heavenly place between wakefulness and sleep, where you can bask in the bliss of the moment. It is a precious moment where everything stops and yet everything is present.
Many speak now of meditation: until relaxation is learnt, true meditation is not possible. Without the ability to relax, that inner state of grace, of silence, of inspiration that so many seek cannot be found.
In these times of turmoil and confusion in our world, times when then pace of life and change seems to be accelerating, it is vital that we learn to slow down. Nothing is more fundamental to our health and well-being and as we see mental health challenges reaching all time highs, as we recognise that we are over-consuming in epidemic proportions, that our own lives are over-geared and our minds over-revved, and that we have found ourselves in prisons of our own making constantly seeking out the next source of stimulation as an addict seeks out its next fix, we have to ask ourselves how can we stop, we have to ask ourselves where the solution lies.
If we can accept first the value of peace, then that the race for peace can never be won, we are on our way to meaningful change.
The solution lies in simplicity, in recognizing that less is more, in slowing down to achieve more.
If you want to be part of this change, the first step is to give yourself the greatest gift of all, that of healing, and the first step of healing is relaxation.

Clinical trials have shown that 45 minutes of Deep Relaxation is equivalent to 4 to 5 hours of good sleep.
